ASEAN Ladies Circle Holds ASEAN Noodles Festival
in line with 41st Anniversary of ASEAN

The Association
of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ladies Circle in Tehran in
cooperation with ASEAN Embassies organized a “Noodles Festival” held
at Royal Thai Embassy grounds on 26 August 2008.
Philippine
Embassy’s Cultural Attache, Ms. Emelyn M. Cosino and presently the
President of ASEAN Ladies Circle lead in planning this Noodles
Festival.
The event is
one of the activities of ASEAN in line with the commemoration of its
41st Anniversary, which aimed awareness on ASEAN foods
especially its noodles.
The
Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was established on 8
August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original Member Countries,
namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Brunei Darussalam joined on 8 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995,
Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999.
Madam
Sheik Attar, wife of Deputy Foreign Minister and one of the officers
of Iranian Diplomatic Ladies Association, opened the festival with
Madammes of ASEAN Embassies.
ASEAN
members countries represented in Tehran namely Brunei, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the
event. The participating countries showcased their popular noodles
with some native handicrafts and products including fashion
accessories, home decors, clothes and food.
Philippine Embassy
prepared “pancit palabok” and “chicken sotanghon soup” for food
tasting; and among items on sale in the booth were pearl accessories
, shell capiz products and
Universal Robina Corporation’s Nissin noodles products.
Royal Thai Embassy,
host of the event, also prepared different types of Thai food and
delicacies for the guests. Diplomats from
different Embassies, ASEAN communities, expats and Iranians attended
the event. |
