The Philippine
Embassy in Tehran organized a Christmas Party 2009 for the members
of the Filipino Community in Iran and their family members. It was
held at the Embassy on 11 December 2009.
The celebration of Christmas was made earlier in
deference to the observance of the
month of “Moharam” of the Islamic Republic of Iran. “Moharam” is a
mourning month widely observed by Iranians which will start on 17
December 2009.
Some 150 Filipinos
residing in Tehran and nearby cities like Karaj, Qazvin and
Mazandaran participated in the event.
The program included
an opening prayer led by Ms. Julie Palec, a Christmas message from
Ambassador Generoso S. Senga, a medley of Saint Abraham Carollers,
fun and indoor games hosted by Ms. Let Khatami, karaoke singing and
dancing. A traditional Filipino lunch was sponsored by the Embassy
while some members of the Filipino Community also brought Filipino
food to share.
The activity was a
success. The Filipinos who attended were very appreciative of the
Embassy’s effort to have a Christmas gathering. They look forward to
similar activities in the future, which allow them to keep in touch
with each other.
During the event,
the Embassy also informed the Filipinos about the Overseas Absentee
Voting that will start on 10 April and will end on 10 May 2010 as
well as the OAV applications which were approved by the COMELEC as
of 04 September 2009.
Most of the approved
OAVs were asking for their COMELEC IDs. The Embassy informed them
that their IDs will be available early next year.
