PRESS RELEASE
Philippine Embassy in Tehran celebrates 2009 Kalayaan

The Philippine Embassy in Tehran
and members of the Filipino community celebrated the 111th
Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence with a simple program held at the
Embassy grounds on 12 June 2009.
The event’s highlight was the flag
raising ceremony. It was followed by a short program where
Ambassador Generoso Senga delivered a short welcome message and read
the messages of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Foreign
Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo. A traditional Filipino
breakfast was sponsored by the Embassy.
Apart from the reading of the messages, a
traditional Filipino Muslim dance and musical performances
were rendered by members of the Filipino Community. A highly
spirited singing of
nationalistic song “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” followed by shouts of
“Mabuhay ang Pilipinas” concluded the program.
Some 100 members of the Filipino
Community in Tehran and nearby provinces took part in the event.
On 13 of June, the Embassy hosted a
cocktail reception at the Ambassador’s Residence for the members of
Diplomatic Corps. The guests included officials from the Iranian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iranian businessmen and officers of the
Filipino Community. The reception was moved to 13 June because of
the Iranian Presidential election on 12 June.
A big screen in the hall showed tourism
destinations in the Philippines. The traditional dresses, the
“Barong Tagalog” and the “Filipiniana” worn by Embassy staff and
members of the Filipino community infused a truly Filipino
atmosphere to the affair. END |
