International
Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
The Philippine
Embassy in Tehran would like to inform the public that the
Philippines is among the UN members' countries that will observe the
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every
26th of June.
The 2010 theme
is "Think Health-Not Drugs" with the bi-fold goals of
informing the public, particularly the youth of the value of a
healthy lifestyle, and creating awareness on the harmful effects of
drugs.
The Philippines
has implemented the following measures to reduce the supply and
demand for drugs in the country: 1) Preventive Education Programs 2)
Treatment and Rehabilitation Programs 3) Intensified Campaign
against the use and trafficking of illegal drugs 4) Regulatory
compliance 5) Judicial and legislative measures 6) National,
regional and international cooperation to fight illegal drug
trafficking and abuse of dangerous drugs.
With the
Philippines' full and sustained implementation of the Comprehensive
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, RA 9165, led and coordinated by the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), with the cooperation of
various concerned agencies, civil society, particularly at the local
and grassroots level of the backdrop of a good environment for
international and regional cooperation in the fight against illegal
drugs, there is a growing sense of optimism that the drug abuse
problem can be solved, and the vision for a drug-free Philippines
can soon be realized. |
